2021. Concrete cast, wax cast, candle wick, mirrors.
This ephemeral piece is centered on the idea of ‘burning the candle at both ends’. The hand, set in a sort of chamber of reflections, is set aflame by a wick running through the tip of each finger, also attached to the center mirror that the hand faces. The basin below the hand catches the wax from the hand that will then fill to be lit and burned away all over again. The piece speaks to the feeling of quite literally watching yourself burn out while not being able to do anything about it.
